The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 5 July conducted raids at more than 40 locations in connection with its ongoing probe into the alleged irregularities in the Gomti River Front Development Project started by the previous Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh.
The CBI raids are being conducted in Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Agra in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the Gomti riverfront project case.
However, sources said that the CBI is raiding locations in Rajasthan and West Bengal in connection with the case. The operation, which started early in the morning, is going on and it may be expanded during the course of the day, the officials said.
The central investigation agency has registered a fresh case in the Gomti riverfront development project case regarding alleged financial irregularities.
The officials said that a large number of engineers of the Uttar Pradesh government and other officials, around 189 of them have been made accused in the FIR.
This is the second FIR related to the project by the CBI. Among the accused, 173 are private persons and 16 are govt officials, including 3 Chief Engineers and 6 Assistant Engineers.

The CBI is probing the alleged irregularities in Rs 1,400 crore Gomti riverfront development project, which was launched by the previous Samajwadi Party government led by Akhilesh Yadav in 2015.
In February, the CBI had filed a charge sheet against six persons including former executive engineer of irrigation department Roop Singh Yadav, his junior assistant Raj Kumar Yadav, two directors of a firm and an advisor of another private firm in the Rs 1,600-crore Gomti Riverfront Development Project scam case. The private firm had been named in the charge sheet.
The project was launched by the Samajwadi Party government.
The CBI had started investigating the case following a recommendation by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath just after he took over in March 2017. In November same year, the CBI took over the case. It filed an FIR against eight engineers of the irrigation department of different ranks in connection with Gomti River Channelization Project and Gomti River Front Development by the department.
The Enforcement Directorate filed a criminal case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in this regard in March 2018.
