New Delhi: Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) AK Sinha is all set to retire on 2 December. RK Dutta was expected to be in the officers’ panel of Lokpal chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since he is now appointed as special secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), he is out of the race.
Krishna Chaudhary, an IPS of the 1979 Bihar cadre and DG, Indo-Tibetan Police; Alok Kumar Verma (IPS:1979: Uttarakhand), Delhi Police Commissioner; Meeran C Borwankar (IPS:1981: Maharashtra), DG, Bureau of Police Research & Development; and Satish Chandra Mathur (IPS:1981: Maharashtra), DGP, Maharashtra, are being considered for the post.
Archana Ramasundaram (IPS:1980: Tamil Nadu), DG, Sashastra Seema Bal; Rupak Dutta (IPS:1981: Karnataka), Special Director, CBI; Ms Meeran C Borwankar (IPS:1981:MH), DG, Bureau of Police Research & Development are excluded from the list.
Police Commissioner of Delhi AKVerma may have a chance to make it. We are expecting some development in the midnight of 2 December.
If that does not happen, the present director may get a 3-months extension.
There is already another special secretary, Internal Security (IS). In the history of the MHA, this will be the first time the IS Division will have 2 special secretaries. The government may have to move the current office bearer or bifurcate the official charges, curtailing the powers delegated to the said post.
