Brahmastra: Can Ranbir Kapoor pull off a Shiva?

In Brahmastra, a motion poster of which has just been released, Ranbir Kapoor essays the role of Shiva and is said to be a man with supernatural powers

The frivolous Bollywood is dabbling with Hinduism again, as Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s highly anticipated Brahmastra is prepared to hit theatres on 9 September 2022. Nearly a year before the release, the filmmakers have recently shared the motion poster and also revealed Ranbir’s look in the film.

Alia Bhatt shared the motion poster and a note on Instagram that read, “His power lights from within. Here comes our Shiva! Brahmastra Part One: Shiva releases in cinemas on 09.09.2022”. The video gives us a glimpse of Shiva aka Ranbir’s world, where he is heard saying to Alia’s character “Kuchh chal raha hai duniya mein Isha… aisa kuchh jo normal logo ke samjh ke bahar hai“…He continues “kuchh puraani shaktiyan hai, kuch astra hain“, after which Alia’s character asks, “Yeh sab tumhe kyun dikh raha haiTum ho kaun, Shiva” Soon Ranbir’s character emerges holding Bhagawan Shiva’s trishula (trident).

In the film, Ranbir Kapoor essays the role of Shiva and is said to be a man with supernatural powers. During the ’s motion poster preview, director Ayan Mukerji had shared, “I know the term superhero gets used with the film a lot because it is sort of in that genre. But in my mind, it is not a superhero film. It is a fantasy adventure epic. It is a modern mythology piece. Shiva is closer to a modern representation of a deva than a western superhero. He is a normal guy who is born with certain energy within him.”

Other than Ranbir and Alia, the stars Amitabh Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, and Nagarjuna in pivotal roles. Mouni Roy will be reportedly seen essaying a negative lead in this three-part franchise film.
