Lucknow: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its list of 40 ‘star’ campaigners for the first and second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The list contains names of Prime minister Naredra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and many veterans of the party.
BJP state president Keshav Prasad Maurya submitted a list of 40 names to the Election Commission.The list contains the names of Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu, Ramlal, Smriti Irani, Om Prakash Mathur, Keshav Prasad Maurya, Uma Bharti, Piyush Goyal, Dr Mahesh Shrama, Yogi Aditya Nath and Dr Sanjeev Balian as well.
Probably for the first time in BJPs history of campaigning, LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi’s did not figure on the list. Varun Gandhi’s name is not on the list either, but her mother Maneka Gandhi has been included.
The list also includes Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Rajasthani counterpart Vasundhara Raje. The name of Vinay Katiyar, a key leader during the Ram temple movement, has been excluded from the list.
Additionally, the names of Ram Vilas Paswan, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Hema Malini, Gen VK Singh, Sadhvi Niranan Jyoti, Santosh Gangwar, Shiv Prakash, Sunil Bansal, Rajveer Singh, Kaushal Kishor, Manoj Tiwari, Swami Prasad Maurya, SP Singh Baghel, Hukum Singh, Dr Ramshankar Kathoria, Ravikant Garg, Bhupendra Yadav, BL Verma, Narendra Kashyap, Avtar Singh Bhadana and Lokesh Prajapati are included in the list.
