The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now decided to issue an ultimatum to the government of Andhra Pradesh. The party has been upping the ante the last few days with protests and demonstrations against the desecration of the ancient Rama temple in Ramtheertham.
The BJP led fiery protests just on 7 January at Nellimarla en route the Ramtheertham temple where miscreants — under the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government that TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu has accused of furthering a Christian agenda in the state — beheaded the murti of Lord Rama in the night of 28 December 2020.
BJP Rajyasabha Member of Parliament GVL Narasimha Rao, AP party president Somu Veeraju and other leaders who tried to march towards the temple to have a darshan were stopped by cops who were deployed in large numbers.
Soon the leaders were detained and sent to a guest house nearby. It was only after several hours and condition that they would not try to go into the temple that they were let go.
Speaking to media, BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao said that the agitation against the government will only intensify if the miscreants are not brought to book.
“The Jagan Mohan Reddy government has been complacent, there have been a series of attacks on temples across the state the recent one at Ramtheertham has hurt all of us deeply. Even till today, no arrest has been made in this regard. Few days ago when a church was attacked we saw arrests happening so quickly, then why the complacency when it comes to temple attacks, we will give the government time till Sakranti, if no concrete steps are taken to prevent such incidents and no arrests happen we will launch a massive statewide agitation,” Narasimha Rao said.
Meanwhile, the YSRCP government has issued orders to form special teams to protect temples across the state, they have assured to increase surveillance and security at all important religious sites.
