Birender Singh wants to resign despite BJP ticket to son

New Delhi: Union minister Chaudhary Birender Singh has offered to resign from the Cabinet and the Rajya Sabha in a letter to BJP president Amit Shah. Chaudhary has reportedly taken this decision after his son Brijendra Singh was nominated by the party for his Lok Sabha seat of Hissar, Haryana.

According to Chaudhary Birender Singh, the BJP is against dynasties. Even in elections. “So, I understood that if my son got an opportunity, I should resign from the Rajya Sabha and as a minister. So I have written to Amit Shah ji, saying I leave the decision to the party, I am ready to resign. I am ready to resign.”

Earlier, the central election committee of the BJP had decided the following names for the ensuing general elections to the parliamentary constituencies in different States and the by-election to a Legislative Assembly seat of Bengal.

The BJP released its 20th list in the wake of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 on Sunday. There are six candidates in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

In this list, Brijendra Singh from Hissar of Haryana and Arvind Sharma from Rohtak have been given tickets. Bisnu Dutt Sharma from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, GS Damore from Ratlam, Chhattar Singh Durbar from Dhar and Jaskar Meena from Dausa, Rajasthan. Also, the name of Pratyak Kumar Mandal has been included for the by-election of Uluberia Purbah Assembly constituency (West Bengal) by-election.

Career of Birender Singh

Union Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh is a leading Jat leader of Haryana. He has been an MLA since 1977, 1982, 1994, 1996 and 2005 from Uchana. He has been a minister in the State government thrice. He reached Parliament for the first time by defeating Om Prakash Chautala in 1984 from the Hissar Lok Sabha constituency.

In 2010, he became a Rajya Sabha member of the Congress, but in 2014, he resigned from the Congress Rajya Sabha membership, breaking a 42-year-old relationship and joining the BJP. BJP sent them to the Rajya Sabha again. That was 2016. On 5 July 2016, the minister took charge as the steel minister in the Cabinet reshuffle.
