Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, one of the world’s top e-commerce companies, still on his tour of India, visited Varanasi and Agra today. He attended the Ganga Ārti in Kashi on Monday evening. He then visited the Taj Mahal in Agra.

Jeff Bezos had kept his visit to Varanasi with his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez highly confidential. No one was aware of where they went and who they met. His visit to Varanasi was revealed when Akashdeep Mathur, the director of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, shared photos of him on social media.

According to sources, the Amazon CEO stayed in Kashi State’s Nadesari Kothi (currently part of the Taj Hotel), where kings of India’s princely states and Queen Elizabeth of Britain once stayed. He saw the ghats of Kashi and attended the Ganga Ārti sitting in a bajra (decorated boat). He could not identify anyone on the streets passing through the ghats. Bezos bought an expensive Banarasi sari for his girlfriend and tasted some special dishes of Varanasi at the hotel.

On his way to Agra from Varanasi in a few minutes conversation with the director at the airport, Bezos said that he wanted to see and know the ancient city of Kashi, which was why he was in the ancient Indian city. He described Kashi as one of the most wonderful and holy cities of the world.

Bezos also praised the facilities available at Varanasi Airport as “world-class”. He is in India these days. His announcement of increasing Amazon’s investment in India, generating jobs and business activities across Indian cities recently met with scornful comments from Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

Bezos is set to invest extensively in various projects in India including in Amazon Prime. He inquired about business activities in Varanasi.

Bezos went from Varanasi to Agra to see the Taj by a chartered plane. The couple reached the Taj Mahal at around 12 noon on Tuesday. Sanchez was seen in a cream suit and navy blue shirt sporting black glasses.

As soon as the Taj became visible from the forecourt, the tycoon is reported to have exclaimed in anticipation. Bezos and Sanchez spent more than an hour at the Taj premises.

The Amazon head was photographed in many places as he closely observed the architecture of the mausoleum of Mumtaz.

Bezos stayed at the Taj Mahal for about two hours and was photographed with Lauren in different ways.

On his social media account, the magnate promoted his company by sharing a photo of Amazon delivering a product to a customer.
