BCCI allows only halal-certified food for cricketers

Players in the Indian cricket team have to follow a strict diet plan set by the BCCI, which will exclude pork and beef in any form. What’s more, even food that is permissible in Islam must be halal-certified — even though a majority of the cricketers is not Muslim — according to the sports web magazine of Aaj Tak. As a little mercy, beef will not be served either.

According to the new dietary plan approved by the BCCI, players will not be allowed to eat pork and beef in any form and variety in order to keep themselves fit and healthy. If anyone wants to have meat, it should be only halal; players cannot eat any other form of meat whatsoever.

The BCCI claims that it enforced this dietary plan strictly for keeping players fit and healthy for big series and upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments. So, this new dietary plan will ensure that players do not gain any unnecessary pounds before any important series or event.

A source in the NGO called BCCI said that the board has observed that some of the players are finding it difficult to maintain the same intensity in every match as they are playing across formats in the rigorous bio-bubble protocols. In addition, now they have to be extra cautious about their eating habits as well, especially, those players who are fond of eating meat inclusive products on daily basis as the new dietary plan won’t allow them to eat whatever they wish.

Meanwhile, Team BCCI took an unassailable lead in the ongoing three-match T20I series against New Zealand following their seven-wicket victory at JSCA International Stadium, Ranchi. Under the guidance of the team’s newly appointed head coach, Rahul Dravid, T20I skipper Rohit Sharma’s boys won their first series.

After an embarrassing run at the T20 World Cup, the team members have been instructed, said sources, that those who wished to have meat, can consume only -certified meat, with a complete on any other form of meat consumption.
