Actor and former MP Arvind Trivedi died in Mumbai late at night on 5 October. The 82-year-old Gujarati theatre and film actor had been unwell for some time. Arvind became a household name with his role of Ravan in Ramanand Sagar’s legendary television series, Ramayan, in the era of Doordarshan in the late 1980s.
Arvind Trivedi acted in about 300 Hindi and Gujarati films. He was an MP of BJP from 1991 to 1996. The veteran actor’s last rites will take place in Mumbai today, 6 October.
Not just Ramayan, the actor played a significant role also in Vikram Aur Betaal while doing a cameo of Trishanku in Vishwamitra where Mukesh Khanna of BR Chopra’s Mahabharat fame played the lead.
Arvind Trivedi acted in as many as 300 Hindi and Gujarati films, many of which were of social and mythological genres.
Not just Arvind Trivedi’s co-stars but also a number of fans tweeted to condole his death. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his death with the words, “We have lost Shri Arvind Trivedi, who was not only an exceptional actor but also was passionate about public service. For generations of Indians, he will be remembered for his work in the Ramayan TV serial. Condolences to the families and admirers of both actors. Om Shanti.”

Actress Dipika expressed her sentiment on Instagram with an emotional note that read: “My heart felt condolences to his family …a very fine human being #arvindtrivedi #ravan.”
Ashoke Pandit tweeted, “Sad to know about the demise of well known theatre, tv & film actor #ArvindTrivedi ji due to massive heart attack. My heartfelt condolences to his entire family & near ones. ॐ शांति !”
The actor came to limelight once again when public broadcaster Doordarshan during the coronavirus lockdown in the country re-telecast the epic show. When the episode of Sita apaharan was aired, his video went viral on the internet. In the episode, he was seen getting emotional while watching the show with folded hands.
The rumours of Arvind Trivedi’s death spread a number of times. His nephew had once tweeted, “Dear all my uncle Arvind Trivedi Lankesh is all good and safe. Stop spreading fake news it is request. Now please spread this. Thanks.” While another time, Sunil rubbished the reports and wrote, Aajkal Koi Na Koi Buri Khabar sunane Ko milati Hai carona ki vajah se, Upar Se Arvind Trivedi ji (Ravan) ki jhuthi khabar, Meri Prathna Hai jhuthi afwah failane Walon se kripya Karke Is Tarah ki khabar na failaye… Bhagwan ki Daya se Arvind ji theek hain aur Prathna Karta Hun Ki Bhagwan unhen sadaiv Swasth rakhen.
Ramayan became the world’s most-watched show in the 1980s and trended in 2020 on top spots on social media. Arun Govil had played Ram while Deepika Chikhalia featured as Sita, Sunil Lahiri played Lakshman and Dara Singh essayed rhe role of Hanuman. The serial featured Sanjay Jog (Bharat), late Vijay Arora (Indrajit aka Meghnad), Sameer Rajda (Shatrughna), late Mulraj Rajda (Janak) and late Lalita Pawar (Manthara).
