Aparna Yadav, DIL of Mulayam Singh Yadav, joins BJP

Getting Aparna Yadav on their side, the BJP has staged a coup, wooing a member of the Mulayam Singh clan and compensating for the desertion by weathercocks

Samajwadi Party (SP)’s patriarch and former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s younger daughter-in- Aparna Yadav today joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the state assembly election. Aparna Yadav joined the BJP in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and BJP president Swatantra Dev Singh, at the party headquarters in the national capital.

Aparna Yadav had flown to Delhi yesterday and was supposed to meet BJP chief JP Nadda today before officially joining the BJP, which she did as scheduled.

Having seen several ministers and MLAs, who had been denied nominations, defect to the Samajwadi Party, the BJP leadership in today pulled off more than a of sorts by attracting a member of the Mulayam clan.

Aparna Yadav was seen in a stole during the ceremony.

“Despite being the bahu of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Aparna Yadav expressed her opinions on several issues from time to time. We used to feel she is part of the BJP family,” the deputy chief minister said. “Akhilesh is not even successful in his family. As a Chief minister also, he has remained unsuccessful,” Maurya said.

“During Akhilesh Yadav’s rule in Uttar Pradesh, western UP was under Azam Khan. There was no safety,” Swatantra Dev, BJP chief, present at the event, said.

She was in her early 30s when Aparna Yadav had married Prateek Yadav, the younger son of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Earlier in 2017, Aparna had contested the assembly election from Lucknow Cantt on a Samajwadi Party ticket. She lost to BJP’s candidate Reeta Bahuguna Joshi.

Aparna Yadav had been vying for an SP ticket again for the upcoming assembly and her supporters had put up her posters and banners in several parts of Amethi. Then she switched loyalties and decided to join the ruling party.

Sister-in- of SP president Akhilesh Yadav, Aparna Yadav addressed the media today, saying, “I have always remained impressed by prime minister Narendra Modi. And I am ready to dedicate my life to this nation. I have been impressed with the way various welfare schemes are run by the party.”

Aparna Yadav had praised Prime Minister Modi even earlier, publicly, on several occasions. Soon after Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister, Prateek Yadav and she had visited him.

Both Aparna Yadav and Yogi Adityanath hail from Uttarakhand. Yogi returned the favour by visiting Kanha Upvan, the cow shelter that is run by the couple in Lucknow.

Among senior party leaders, BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni, who is from Uttarakhand too, was present during the joining ceremony.
