Seeing the cordon tightening, the terrorists hiding in a house started firing rapidly at the security forces. The jawans gave a befitting reply, but the operation was postponed at night.

The security forces then installed floodlights in the area to prevent terrorists from taking advantage of the darkness. The operation started again in the early hours of Wednesday.

The terrorists opened fire to escape, which again triggered an encounter. Four terrorists were killed in retaliation by security forces.

According to sources, the slain terrorists had joined Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind, leaving Hizb ul Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. they have been identified as Basharat Ahmed Shah of Nikolura Pulwama, Lawyer Ahmed Dar, Tariq Ahmad Bhat of Khasipora and Uzair Amin Bhat of Chesati Colony Baramulla.

Terrorist Basharat Ahmad Shah had joined Lashkar in May 2018. advocate Ahmed Dar joined Jaish on 16 July 2019. Tariq Ahmed Bhat joined in May 2018 and Ujair Amin Bhat in Hizb ul Mujahideen on 2 July 2019.

Only Tariq was a Category A terrorist. The rest were in the C category. With these terrorists killed, the Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind is now on the verge of extinction. Sources say that there are only a few militants left in its fold.

These were among the last terrorists in the Ansar fold, the fate of which had been sealed in October last when the security forces killed Abdul Hameed Lelhari and Naved Hussain.

Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar has said that the security forces have obtained DNA samples of all the terrorists killed in the encounter. The family of a slain terrorist has surfaced, whom the dead body will be shown. If they recognize the body, then two-three members of the family will be allowed to perform the last rites. Those who claim later, further action will be taken by taking their DNA sample.
