Ankita Bhandari case turns mysterious, as SIT withholds information about VIP guest

The SIT has got important evidence related to the murder of Ankita Bhandari in Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand DIG ( and Order) P Renuka Devi, who is leading the investigating team, told reporters today. She said that the investigation team had got some footage that has now brought a dignitary's movements at the scene under the scanner.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had ordered the formation of the SIT.

Meanwhile, demonstrations are incessant in Uttarakhand, with activists demanding for Ankita Bhandari. Locals suspect efforts could be made to prepare a weak case against Pulkit Arya, the son of a former BJP leader.

The SIT head said that the three accused in the case had been taken on remand for three days.  They have been seriously interrogated in connection with the murder. "We have got a lot of evidence," she said, stopping short of elaborating on the VIP guest who had arrived at the resort. "The SIT is gathering information on that," Renuka Devi said.

The officer said that the SIT had re-examined the scene with the three accused for a reconstruction of the alleged murder with their help.

The DIG said that the SIT team was questioning the revenue department as well as the workers at the Vanantara Resort and the candy factory of main accused Pulkit Arya.

The body of 19-year-old Ankita, a receptionist at the Vanantara Resort in Ganga Bhogpur, Yamkeshwar in District Pauri Garhwal, was recovered from the Chilla canal near Rishikesh on 24 September.

The police arrested three accused — resort operator Pulkit Arya, manager Saurabh Bhaskar and assistant manager Ankit Gupta — in this case on 23 September. The arrests followed the suspects' confession to murdering Ankita Bhandari by drowning her in the canal near the resort.
