On Thursday, while lodging an FIR against AAP councillor Tahir Hussain for his alleged involvement in the murder of IB security assistant Ankit Sharma, the victim’s father Ravindra Kumar said that the suspects disfigured his son’s face to turn it unrecognisable. Police said that they have registered the case against Hussain under Sections 365 and 302 of the IPC on the complaint of Sharma’s father.
The bereaved father mentioned that he lived in the same neighbourhood as Hussain’s — Khajuri Khas — with his family, which comprised his wife and two sons Ankur and the younger Ankit who was no more. He wrote Ankit used to do government work in his father’s office.
Where Ankit Sharma was killed
On the main road from Bhajanpura to Karawal Nagar, Kumar wrote, there was a violent clash between the opponents and protesters of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on the Chand Bagh bridge. Describing the incident that led to the killing of his son, the father wrote that the conflict saw stone-pelting, arson and firing from both sides.
According to the FIR, the office of councillor Tahir Hussain is near the Chand Bagh bridge too. He had, according to Kumar, brought his goons to his office. Those who were firing from the roof of the building were also throwing petrol bombs, Ankit’s father complained.
Tension and fear gripped the people of the area, says the FIR. It says that on 25 February, Ankit had come home from his office at 5 in the evening and then gone out. When he did not return for long, the family started looking for him.
The father wrote that his family went to the Khajuri Khas and Dalaipur police stations, as well as nearby hospitals. After waiting all night, they lodged a missing report on the 26th.
How the IB constable was killed
Kumar said that some young men from the vicinity found out that Ankit was accompanied by a certain Kalu and another young man living nearby. As the father was inquiring about Kalu, he came to know from a crowd that some goons from the mosque of Chand Bagh Pulia had murdered a youngster and dumped his body in the drain of the area.
Kumar shared this information with the cops at the Dayalpur police station. The police searched the drain with the help of divers and found Ankit’s body.
The body was found in underwear. On the face, chest, back and waist of the corpse were visible wounds made by what looked like sharp weapons. His face had been burnt to hide his identity.
The father has alleged that Tahir Hussain and the people present in his office killed his son and threw the body from the mosque into the drain.
The autopsy report confirms that there were multiple stab wounds on the body, numbering 400 odd. The wound-age estimation details in the report revealed that the injuries were inflicted over a period of six hours until Ankit Sharma died.
