Amethi slipping out of Rahul’s ‘hand’? Hear out this old lady voter

This old Amethi voter was about to press the button corresponding to the lotus, BJP’s symbol, but a Congress worker forced her finger on its symbol, the hand

New Delhi: Union minister and BJP candidate from Amethi Smriti Irani has accused the Congress of capturing booths in the constituency. While Irani tweeted her allegation and complained to the Election Commission, other users of Twitter have posted evidence of rigging in the micro-blogging site.

Hopefully, Irani says, the commission will take action. She also said that the people of the country have to decide whether this type of politics of Rahul Gandhi should go unpunished. With this tweet, Smriti has also shared a video in which an elderly woman is saying that she wanted to vote for the BJP, but some Congress worker held her hand and pressed the button against the hand symbol.

Today, during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election, votes are being cast for 51 seats across seven states. Till 11 AM, 22% of citizens in these areas have cast their votes. Jharkhand has recorded the highest turnout of 29%. It is closely followed by 26% voting in West Bengal and 24% in Rajasthan.

There are about 8.77 million voters in these constituencies where voting is going on. There are 674 candidates in the fray. There are 51 seats in this phase in which the BJP won 39 in 2014. Congress got only two seats.

This time, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of seats going to polls: 14. The fates of many big leaders, including that of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani will be sealed in EVM units today.
