Amazon website launches in Hindi for Android customers

Search and delivery address will be available in English only as of now as Amazon will develop this platform and launch more features in the coming months

New Delhi: Amazon on Tuesday announced the launch of its e-commerce website in the Hindi language on Android and its mobile website, in a move to target customers beyond the metropolitans in India.

With the addition of Hindi language support, Amazon looks to capture a wider audience in the country. Amazon notes that customers can now read detailed product information, find deals and discounts, place the orders, pay for their orders, manage their account information, track their orders, and view order history in Hindi.

Amazon India’s Android app and mobile website now have a new language option in the left Menu bar. The app does not require to be updated, with the new Language option showing up thanks to a server-side update, the company said at a press event in New Delhi.

The language button now has the option to switch from English to Hindi, and it currently lists only top products and important shopping information in Hindi. The Hindi language support currently does not list all products in the regional language, but navigation buttons and posters do read in Hindi.

Amazon says that the search feature and the delivery address currently needs English intervention as well, but over the course of the months, it will add more shopping features like product reviews, questions, and answers in Hindi.

The desktop version will be available soon. Search and delivery address will be available in English only as of now as Amazon will develop this platform and launch more features in the coming months.

Officials said Amazon doesn’t have its entire portfolio of products in Hindi as yet and that the company is starting off with the most common items for its Hindi website. They said the company has carefully selected products that are most popular with its Hindi speaking customers.

Amazon plans to bring more languages to its website in the near future.

Reports said Amazon launched a new category of Alexa skills on 14 August that would enable customers to help the popular voice assistant learn Hindi and other Indian languages. They said users can teach Alexa by using the new “Cleo” skill more about Indian languages and culture by interacting with it.
