Aishwarya Rai Bachchan summoned by ED

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the Panama Papers case that revealed how offshore firms were used to stash the wealth of the world’s rich and powerful. However, the actress has reportedly sought another date for reporting to the ED.

The agency had summoned the actress twice in the case earlier in 2016. A list of lists in the case was leaked which had 1100 Indians on it.

German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung had originally obtained the leaked documents. At least 12,000 of these fresh documents are linked to Indians. There are celebrities and businessmen on the list.

Amitabh Bachchan’s name had cropped up in the Panama Papers case too, which is being probed by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (popularly known as the “income tax department”).

Recently, Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan had returned from the Maldives, after celebrating Aaradhya’s 10th birthday there. The had dropped dreamy pictures from their beach holiday on Instagram.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen on screen in Fanney Khan in 2018. She will make a comeback after four long years with filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s ambitious historical fiction drama Ponniyin Selvan. The actress will reportedly be playing a double role in this film which is based on iconic writer Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historical fiction novel of the same name. Set in the backdrop of Chola Dynasty, the epic novel has been adapted for the big screen by Ratnam along with writer B. Jeyamohan, who has penned dialogues for the movie.
