AAP lost vote share in 38 seats; BJP gained in 63

Amid a grim scenario for the Delhi unit of the BJP after the assembly election, an analysis of the poll result shows that the party enjoyed a good lead in most of the assembly seats and its vote share has increased. Out of 70 assembly seats in Delhi, BJP won 8 seats this time. And its vote share has increased in 63 seats although nearly as many seats went to the AAP.

In 20 seats, BJP has increased vote share by more than 10% compared to 2015 election. BJP has increased the maximum vote share in Najafgarh seat. Here his vote share has increased by 21.5% as compared to the previous election.

The AAP has won big in this election, but as far as the vote share is concerned, it has decreased in 38 seats. However, compared to the last election, there are 5 seats where AAP has increased its vote share by more than 10%.

The AAP has increased its vote share in Mustafabad assembly seat by 23%. There are 32 seats where the AAP’s vote share has increased too. Its strong vote share was seen in seats with thick Muslim populations: Mustafabad, Matia Mahal, Chandni Chowk, Ballimaran and Seelampur.

There are 27 assembly seats where the vote share of both AAP and BJP has increased. The AAP’s vote share in Karaval Nagar seat decreased the most. AAP got 13.5% fewer votes here than in the last election.

The INC has been unable to open its account in Delhi for the second time in a row. The 63 candidates of the party had their deposits forfeited. The party lost its vote share in 63 seats.

But there is good news for the INC, which is going through its worst performance in Delhi, from Kasturba Nagar, where it has increased its vote share by more than 10% compared to 2015. Congress lost the highest vote share in Mustafabad and its vote here went directly to AAP. In Mustafabad, the Congress got 28.8% fewer votes than the 2015 election.

The people of Delhi have strongly supported AAP. It has the support of 49,74,522 people in the total vote. BJP has got the support of 35,75,430 and Congress 3,95,924 people. Significantly, on 16 February, Arvind Kejriwal will take the oath of the chief minister with full cabinet at Ramlila Maidan.
