Police from Gir Somnath have arrested an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician from Veraval in Gujarat after a woman filed a complaint of rape against him. The police will arrest the AAP leader, Bhagu Vala, once his Covid-19 report comes out negative. Veraval Police Inspector Sunil Israni said that a 23-year-old woman on 22 September filed a criminal complaint against Vala, alleging that he raped her.
The medical examination of the victim was conducted on 23 September.
The FIR says the AAP politician was allegedly running a video-making agency in the name of Vishwa films. He lured the victim with a promise to give her work as a model in an advertisement and even in films, for which she needed a photoshoot. Under the pretext of shooting for the advertisement, Vala called the victim to his flat where he raped her.
The police officer said the suspect would undergo a medical examination, after which he would be produced before the court and the police would seek his remand for investigating the case.
Vala, before joining the AAP, was part of the INC for a long time in District Gir Somnath.
