AAP found romancing Delhi rioter again

Several photos of alleged human trafficker and rioter Mohammed Ansar in the company of AAP activists have flooded social media in the past 48 hours

About two years after the infamous Tahir Hussain episode, social media platforms were flooded with pictures of Jahangirpuri violence accused Mohammed Ansar and the AAP, with citizens demanding police probe into the masterminds’ connections with the party that rules Delhi. Several images surfaced on Twitter and Facebook, which show Ansar in the company of AAP activists, sporting the broom-marked cap of the party.

Lawyer Prashant Umrao posted a photograph of the kind on Twitter with the caption: “Kejriwal’s pet thug, who attacked Hindus in Jahangirpuri.”

Umrao was not alone. Twitter user Vikrant tweeted, “Ansar is an AAP Member who actively campaigned for The Party during Delhi Elections. After Tahir Hussain another feather in the party.”

Twitter user Dr Kana Bose (@dkranbose) posted images of Ansar in an AAP cap, sitting with several bottles of hard drinks. “This guy is affiliated with the AAP who was arrested by the cops but he is linked with Flesh Trade and other illegal Trafficking from Bengal to Delhi,” he alleged.

Social media users also trolled journalists who appeared sympathetic to the rioter.

Kapil Mishra, the former AAP MLA who has been with the BJP for more than two years now, posted a video, saying, “All the rioters who are being caught from Jahangirpuri were involved in Delhi riots and Shaheen Bagh. The main criminal, Ansar, used to take women from here to Seelampur, Zafarabad and Shaheen Bagh to get the roads closed. The AAP has connections with Tahir Hussain, Khalid Saifi and Umar Khalid.”

Gauging the mood of the people, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor shot off a letter to AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, asking why the Delhi chief minister was not expelling the rioter from the party.

“Delhiites want a reply from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership over the involvement of the youth, apparently an AAP worker, in the Jahangirpuri riots. Earlier too, we saw AAP councilor Tahir Hussain as the main accused of 2020 Delhi riots,” Kapoor said in the letter. But AAP leader and Delhi minister Satyendar Jain brazened it out, telling reporters, “I think he (Ansar) must be linked to the BJP since the party knows the inside story.”

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar came to the rescue of AAP, as he slammed the BJP for the recent communal clashes during Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti celebrations. The veteran politician also indicated that he would not be averse to a union government ban against the Popular Front of India. “We never heard of communal violence during Ram Navami. The reason behind this is the BJP and some of their organisation. Delhi’s law and order situation comes under the Central government,” Pawar said today in Bengaluru.

Clashes had broken out between Hindus and Muslims during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Saturday, in which eight police personnel and a local were injured.

Delhi Police has so far held 22 people and apprehended two juveniles in connection with the incident. According to them, Md Ansar and Md Aslam were the main conspirators who got to know about the ‘Shobha Yatra’ on April 15 and hatched up a conspiracy to create trouble.

Manoj Tiwari, BJP MP from northeast Delhi, which was rocked by Muslim blockade followed by Hindu resistance in 2020, said, “The mastermind of the attack in Jahangirpuri, Md Ansar, has been found to be a worker of AAP. There are pieces of evidence of this in the form of photographs. Tahir Hussain who was the mastermind of the Delhi riots in 2020 was also an AAP councillor. Is AAP running a riots factory?”

He reiterated that illegal immigrants living in the city were a big challenge for police and law and order.

“AAP has fond ties with them because they work for it. Their Aadhaar and cards are prepared easily. The police and intelligence agencies should probe as to why the masterminds of incidents of riots are found to be associated with the AAP,” Tiwari alleged.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta had on Sunday alleged that Ansar was an AAP activist and had relations with party MLAs. He had also claimed that the violence in Jahangirpuri was the result of the AAP government aiding the illegal stay of Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants.

Meanwhile, Satyendar Jain said the law and order situation is not good in Delhi and answers in this regard should be sought from Union Home Minister Amit Shah under whom the city police functions.

“Ask the home minister, under whom the (Delhi) police come, why is he not improving the law and order situation,” he told reporters.

Earlier, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, in a press briefing, said a thorough probe was conducted into the violence in Jahangirpuri and no one, irrespective of their class, creed and religion would be spared if found involved in it.
