The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a major setback today in Himachal Pradesh, with three big- politicians, including state president Anoop Kesari, organisation secretary Satish Thakur and Una district president Singh joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur organised a meeting with these AAP leaders at the house of national president JP Nadda in Delhi, where they were inducted into the party.

Humiliating the AAP, Thakur tweeted that the Himachal hills and the people of those hills would not fall into the trap laid by Kejriwal. He wrote that AAP’s top Himachal Pradesh leaders had joined the against the anti-Himachal policies of AAP. He said that AAP had forfeited deposit on all seats in the assembly election of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh is also ready to repeat the same.

The AAP had kickstarted its election campaign in Himachal Pradesh on 6 April with a roadshow where its two chief ministers, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, sought at least a chance from the people as compared to 30 years of Congress and 17 years of the rule.

The defection flies in the face of claims of the AAP that Kejriwal’s Mandi roadshow had worried the so much that the latter was going to change its chief minister in Himachal Pradesh.

These three AAP activists joined in New Delhi in the presence of BJP president JP Nadda besides Thakur.

The AAP intends to contest the upcoming Himachal Pradesh assembly election on all 68 seats this time.

After presiding over the defection from the AAP, Nadda arrived in Shimla to start a four-day tour of Himachal Pradesh. He held a roadshow in Shimla to launch the ’s campaign for the elections of Shimla Municipal Corporation and assembly election.

After a massive victory in Punjab, AAP may be eyeing Himachal Pradesh, announcing it would contest all seats in the assembly. Kejriwal’s party has also identified the as its main rival. But the growing party still has no mass from Himachal Pradesh and it is relying heavily on the Delhi chief minister and now his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann to draw crowds to its public meetings.

Last month AAP had appointed Delhi health minister Satyendra Jain as its man in charge of the Himachal Pradesh election while Satender Tongar was appointed as the Organisational Secretary. In all, eight members team was appointed to look after the preparation for the coming assembly election.
