Srinagar: Eight terrorists were killed and another captured in three separate encounters in South Kashmir’s Shopian and Anantnag district. The terrorists killed also includes top terror commanders. Three army personnel have also sustained injuries.
At Britney Dailgam, seven kilometres from Anantnag town, one terrorist was gunned down after a fierce encounter, while his accomplice Amir was captured. The slain terrorist has been identified as Rouf Bashir Shiekh. He had joined militancy last month itself.
Meanwhile, two separate encounters are underway at Draggad and Kachidora in Shopian. The Army said one terrorist had been killed in the Shopian operation.
“The operations are still underway,” an Army spokesman said. In the last three days, unidentified gunmen have killed two Special Police Officials and also injured wife of an SPO in five separate attacks. A terrorist was also injured during a gunfight.
Acting on a specific intelligence input about the presence of terrorists in the Peth Dialgam area of Anantnag, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, a police official said.
The search operation turned into an encounter after terrorists fired upon the forces, he added. He said the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists were being ascertained, adding the operation was on.
A police officer said the encounter broke out in the area in Shopian district this morning as terrorists fired upon a search party of security forces.
Some arms and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site and the operation.
Meanwhile, another gunfight broke out in Kachdoora area of Shopian. The encounter in Kachdoora is underway and further details are awaited, the official said.
Quoting Jammu and Kashmir DGP, SP Vaid, a news agency has reported that at least four terrorists are believed to be trapped but some civilians are also trapped in the houses in Kachdoora. Efforts are being made to rescue them. It further said that two soldiers have also been injured in Draggad and Kachdoora encounters.
