New Delhi: Union ministry of Human Resource Development has constituted a team of 15 academicians to look into the performance of 11 universities of the country that included as important universities as Allahabad University, Aligarh Muslim University, Tripura University and Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. The team will give its report to the ministry on which the next course of action will be taken by the ministry.
Sources in the ministry said that this decision was taken by the ministry to know the quality of the research work, the standard of faculty, result of student and strength of curriculum taught at universities. Reports have been pouring in about the deteriorating standards of major universities across the country. Sources in the ministry also said that this project was a pilot project for which the ministry asked University Grant Commission to constitute a team for the job. If the report submitted by this team works properly the entire procedure would be made a general practice for all universities in the country.
Academic from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi University and from other distinguished institutions have been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting an audit of these universities. Dr Sripad Karmalkar, Dr Kailash Sodani and Dr Mazhar Asif have been given the responsibility to audit Aligarh Muslim University and Pondicherry University. The responsibility of Hemwati Nandal Bahuguna Garhwal University and Allahabad University has been given to Dr Gautan Desiraju, Dr Kshitibhushan Das and Sriprakash Singh.
Jammu University and Mahatma Gandhi Antarashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalay got editors as Dr K K Agrawal, Dr Amita Singh and Dr Panchanan Mohanty while Jharkhand University and Rajasthan University will be dealt by Dr S R Bhatt, Dr Munees Kumar and Rakesh Mohan Joshi. Prof P Rama Rao, Anil Gupta of Wadia Research Institute and Dr Soibam Ibotombi will look after Baba Saheb Ambedkar University, Lucknow, Tripura University and Dr Hari Singh Gaur University, Sagar.
The team will submit its report to the ministry and then a decision will be taken on what measures are required to make the universities better and how to improve the deteriorating condition of education in these universities.
